Method of Band knife fabric cutting //

Feature or working principle:

A band knife comprises a series of three or more pulleys, powered by an electric motor with a continuous rotating steel blade mounted on them.

The principal of of operation is different from a straight or around knife in that the band knife passes in a fixed position and the selected of lay to be cut is moving past it.

1.           Cutting knife is endless in shape and flexible.

2.           A blade is usually narrower than with a straight knife and there is no standard behind it.

3.           A band knife work place may be so arranged that the operator either pushes or pulls the selection of lay towards the knife.

Advantage:

1.       Band knives are used when a higher standard of cutting accuracy is required.

2.       Extensively used to cut very sharp corners of small parts such as collars, cuff.

3.       Band knife are used more in men wear than in women wear and are often used to cut large garment part such as the larger panels of jacket and over coats.

4.      Intensity of an accident is low.

5.      Possible to cut in 90° angle the fabric lay.

Disadvantage:

1.      Work load is high as m/c stationary and fabric moves.

2.      It is not suitable for cutting large garment parts.

3.      Not possible to cut fabric directly.

4.      Fabric wastage very high because block pieces of fabric required.

5.      Power loses high.
