Consumption determination of fabric is a very important term in textile sector. Since it depends on fabric prices therefore accurate and closure consumption will reduce fabric wastage which will be beneficial for us economically. So, we should keep proper knowledge of fabric consumption properly.
Here today I am going to present fabric consumption of a basic polo-shirt.

Fabric consumption of a polo-shirt is the sum of fabric consumption of different parts of polo-shirt:

  • Fabric consumption for body part.
  • Fabric consumption for Sleeves.

For calculating fabric consumption of a basic polo-shirt following measurement will be needed.

  1. Body Length
  2. ½ Chest
  3. Sleeve length
  4.  Armhole

So, now consider
  • Body length
= 78 cm (For body length allowance = 3+1.5 = 4.5 cm)
  • ½ Chest
= 56 cm (For chest allowance = 2+2= 4 cm)
  • Sleeve length
= 25.5 cm (For sleeve length allowance = 2+1.5= 3.5 cm)
  •  Armhole
= 51 cm (For sleeve opening allowance = 2+1 = 3 cm)
  • GSM
= 160 (Lacoste)
  • Wastage %
= 8%

Fabric consumption per dozen, (all measurement in cm)

Fabric Consumption Per Dozen

(Body length+ ½ chest) * 2 + (sleeve length + arm hole) * 2 * 12*160 + wastage %
                                       10000000
=(78+56)*2+(51+25.5 )*2*12*160    + 8%
                                    10000000
= 2.14 kg/dz +.171 =2.31 kg/dz

(

 So, Fabric consumption of a polo-shirt = 2.31 kg/dz

Note: Here I have made consumption of polo shirt which has a pocket. Here I did not mention collar and cuff consumption because maximum time in a polo shirt there is used flat knit collar and cuff.

Thread consumption of a polo shirt is the sum of thread consumption of different parts of polo shirt:

Bottom hem (flat lock) = 2756 cm

Sleeve hem=5480cm

Side seam=4218cm

Solder seam=768cm

Placket=592cm

Sleeve joining=4536cm

Neck joining=627cm

Rib collar=1998cm

Tag= 64 cm

Level =237cm

Button attaching =192 cm

Placket lock =192cm

Logo = 200cm

Total thread of polo shirt

=2756+5480+4218+768+592+4536+627+1998+64+237+192+192+200

= 21860cm

=218.6 m

Now,
Unit price of fabric,
                                      Yarn cost         = $ 3.5 /kg
                                    Knitting cost     = $ .20 /kg
                           Dyeing &finishing     =$ 2/kg

Unit cost for per kg fabric,

=Yarn cost+Dyeing & finishing+Knitting cost
=$ (3.5+0.20+2) = $ 5.7/kg
So, total fabric price,
=2.31 kg * $ 5.7
=$13.16

Accessories details for per pieces,

Ø  Sewing thread=  $.06
Ø  Level
ü  Main level= $ .05
ü  Care level= $ .02
ü  Size level= $ .01
Ø  Polybag= $ .03
Ø  Cartoon= $ .04
Ø  Wastage= $ .05

Total cost of accessories for per pieces,

=Sewing thread+Level+Polybag+Wastage+Cartoon

= $.06+$.08+$ .03+$ .04+$ .05 = $ .26

Total cost of accessories for per dozen,
= $ .26 * 12 = $ 3.12/ dz

Now total costing of men’s polo shirt
ü  Fabric price =$13.16

üAccessories =$ 3.12
ü  Cost of making (CM) =$ 4
ü  Profit  20%  = $ .20

Total cost,
= Fabric price +Cost of making +Accessories
=$ 13.16+$ 3.12 +$ 4+$ .20
=$ 20.48/dz

Cost of polo shirt per pieces,

=$ 20.48/12
=$1.70/pc

Final quoted price for Buyer = $ 1.70 / pc (FOB)
