Determination of GSM of woven and knitted fabrics

Introduction:

Determination of the G.S.M oz/yd2of given fabric by G.S.M CUTTER and electric balance
Knitted -gm/m2
Woven -oz/yd2
GSM means gm/m2 of a textile materials

Objects:

  • To compare wet of the fabric before and after dyeing
  • To compare wet of difference fabric

GSM CUTTER


Working procedure:


Taking the sample from the bulb and conditioned 4.2 in to 6 hours
↓
Placing the condition on the GSM cutting pad so that no crash or crinkle in formed
↓
Cutting the fabric is GSM cutter
↓
Taking the wet of cut fabric by using electric balance and materials
↓
Get the GZS of the fabric in oz/yd2



For knit fabric
For example 1. GSM = Weight ­­X 100
                   =2.55 X 100
                   =255
Similarity, For sample 2. GSM = 256
                       3. GSM = 257
                       4. GSM = 255
                       5. GSM = 256
Average GSM = (255+256+257+255+256)/5
            =256
Average gm/yd2=Average gsm/33.39
              =(256/33.39)
              = 7.66

For weight fabric
For example :
            1. GSM =2.76 X100=276
            2. GSM =2.78 X100=278
            3. GSM =2.77 X100=277
            4. GSM =2.79 X100=279
            5. GSM =2.75 X100=275
Average GSM = (276+278+277+279+275)/5
            =277
Average gm/yd2=Average gsm/33.39
              =(277/33.39)
              = 8.29

Remarks:

This is a direct measuring tester, so the result should be according on the other hand the knitted fabric are very much extensible and proper of deceased state. It is required more concentration too different sample cutting with GSM cutter.
