Determination of the fibre fineness by fibre fineness tester.

Introduction: Dead  fabre exhibit a variety of cross sectional shapes and they also very in section  along their length and vary from fiber to fiber fineness denotes the size of the cross section dimension of the fibre. As the cross sectional feature is irregular direct is difficult and laborious.

Object:
  • To know fineness of fibre
  • To control the quality of fibre for better production
  • To maintain the buyer requirement

Micronaise: It is an instrument based on the air flow principle. This is originally developed to estimate the fiber fineness in term of micronair per inch for cotton, the value do not signify only the fineness and maturity when used for cotton fibers.

Working principle: The rate of air flow is inversely proportional to the surface area of the fibre. A sample is know weight is compression in a cylinder to a know volume and subjected to an air flow throught this porous plug of fibre related to the fineness of the cotton fibre is measured.

Apparatus:
  1. Electric balance
  2. Cotton fibre
  3. Fibre fineness tester
working procedure: 50 grains (3.24 gm) of sample is taken and balance accordingly only 0,1 grain (6 miligrams) is permite to tolerance. The sample is opened very well and fibre are separated and randomize individually.The sample placed into compression chamber.The fibre compression plunger is 1 inch diameter and 1 inch length,it is inserted and locked in its place by twisting the foot pedal is operated to allow air inside and the reading token with the top label of the float. The foot is operate the shut off the air flow, the fibre sample is opened  from each test lot an tested out and repacked into fibre compression chamber. two sample should be tested from each test lot and overage value is calculated to nearest 0.1 micronaise unit.
